$3,000 Wine Bottles Stolen From Famed French Laundry Restaurant On Christmas
YOUNTVILLE (CBS SF) — Northern California's most renowned restaurant was not open on Christmas, but that didn't stop Bay Area crooks from making merry with one of the more valuable collections in wine country.
Crooks smashed in the door of Thomas Keller's French Laundry restaurant in Yountville on December 25th, making off with more than 50 bottles, which included Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Screaming Eagle.
An online wine list shows the bottles sell for $3,250 to $7,950. Here's the Napa County Sheriff's inventory of the stolen labels.
The restaurant was closed for renovations over the holidays when the theft occurred.
"We have complete trust in the authorities leading the investigation, and we welcome any information our community may have regarding the event," reads an Instagram post from the company.
"The French Laundry wine program is, as many of you know, singular and distinct. We look forward to rebuilding our cellar in the meantime and plan to get to the bottom of this disheartening act immediately," read the post that ended with the hashtag #TheGrinchThatStoleXmas.
The French Laundry is known for twice daily serving nine-course tasting menus—none of which uses the same ingredient more than once. Since 2006 it has earned three Michilin Guide Stars, the highest possible award.
