Why Roberta Loves KPIX 5's Mount Vaca Hi-Def Doppler
KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.
Q: Hey Roberta, where is your Hi Def Doppler located? Kent Smith; Brisbane
A: Good question for today's rain!
In 2005, KPIX 5 built our very own LIVE Hi Def Doppler. It is located on Mount Vaca, which is located in both Napa and Solano counties. The mountain stands 2,818 feet high making it perfect for catching storms on the approach from the north!
We feature our LIVE Hi Def Doppler on our Weather page. If you want/need to utilize it, it's easy! The weather map features the ability to switch between regular radar and rain/snow view as well as the ability to animate the map. It also has advanced radar controls to fine-tune the radar map animation settings for the following selectors: frame delay, zoom, clutter, labels, rain/snow, and an experimental control for lightning.
"You can watch weather conditions as they unfold in real time—see where the rain and snow are falling, right now in your community," said Dan Rosenheim, KPIX Vice President and News Director.
Pictures featured in this blog are during my visit to check out our Doppler Radar and understand what a vital tool it is to us here in the KPIX Weather Department, but also to you, our viewers in assisting you as you plan your day!
Please send weather questions, observations and photos to me, Gonzales@kpix.cbs.com and I look forward to hearing from you!
