Transbay BART Service Restored After Truck Crash On West Oakland Tracks

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- The West Oakland BART station reopened roughly an hour after a truck crashed onto the tracks near the station, temporarily bringing all transbay BART service to a stop Wednesday night.

BART officials said there are major delays as the system recovers.

Transbay travel was has been restored, but with residual delays system-wide, according to BART officials.

Shortly before 8 p.m., BART announced to passengers that a truck had crashed through a fence and onto the tracks near the West Oakland station and that there was no service between the East Bay and San Francisco.

The crash reportedly happened near Fifth and Jefferson streets, where trains enter the Transbay Tube. BART trains heading to the East Bay were rerouted back to San Francisco.

Shortly after 9 p.m., the truck was towed off the tracks and service resumed.

BART officials have not said who drove the truck onto the tracks, or why.
