Watsonville Police Taser Raging Naked Man Jumping On Cars
WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) -- A naked man, accused of attacking police after allegedly jumping on cars and trying to enter a Watsonville home late Friday night, was transported to the hospital to be evaluated for what police said may have been a narcotic-induced reaction.
Watsonville police said the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Ramiro Mora, of Pajaro, tried to enter a home in the 300 block of East Fifth Street at about 11 p.m.
The residents of the home called police and reported that the suspect was breaking windows and running around as though he was under the influence of drugs.
Other callers to police reported seeing the same suspect jumping on top of parked vehicles and hitting them with his hands.
According to police, officers recognized this behavior as excited delirium, a disorder that is usually drug-related, and can be fatal.
When officers arrived in the area they found the suspect hiding behind an SUV parked on East Fifth Street.
Officers requested the assistance of fire and ambulance crews while they attempted to apprehend the suspect.
Police said that when they attempted to contact Mora he attacked them, striking one officer in the head.
Officers used a Taser to subdue Mora and were then able to apprehend him. Police said Mora continued to struggle and yell and officers had to hold him on the ground.
Mora's clothing and identification were found in a nearby garage a short time later, police said.
Paramedics transported Mora to Watsonville Community Hospital where he was monitored.
Police said that due to Mora's medical condition, a warrant would be requested for trespassing, vandalism, resisting arrest, and assaulting an officer.
