Warriors Curry, Thompson Make 1st Cut For Team USA

(CBS SF) - USA Basketball has announced they've cut the first three players from the roster for the 2014 USA Basketball Men's World Cup Team, and both Klay Thompson and Steph Curry are still in the mix to represent team USA this summer.

John Wall and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards along with Paul Millsap of the Atlanta Hawks were cut from the squad of 20 players, which will eventually be whittled down to 12 for the FIBA World Cup in Spain later this month.

Curry is largely considered a lock for the team, with Thompson considered on the bubble to make the roster. Both guards are strong outside shooters, a key skill in international play, where the three point line is closer to the hoop than in the NBA.

Kevin Durant, James Harden, Derrick Rose, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, Kenneth Faried, Andre Drummond, DeMarcus Cousins, Gordon Hayward, Mason Plumlee, Chandler Parsons, Kyle Korver and DeMar DeRozan are all are among those being considered by director Jerry Colangelo, coach Mike Krzyzewski for the final roster.

The Warriors were the only NBA team to have two players invited to camp.
