Vodka Prices Capped In President Vladimir Putin's Plan To Handle Plummeting Ruble Value

MOSCOW, RUSSIA (CBS SF) -- Putting Russia's signature drink in the spotlight, President Vladimir Putin announced plans to cap the prices for vodka, as his country's currency continues to plummet while inflation soars above 10 percent.

The idea may seem like a misplaced priority amid the emergency with food becoming unaffordable, but Putin's plan is actually geared toward public health, at least that's what he said according to the state-owned TASS news agency.

Putin is concerned about bootleg moonshine becoming more common, contributing to alcoholism, and he said a cap on the cost of vodka might reduce people resorting to distilling their own.
