Victim ID'd In Freak Petaluma Crash With Runaway Pizza Oven
PETALUMA (CBS/AP) -- Authorities have identified a Northern California man killed after a large brick pizza oven towed by a catering van broke loose and careened into his car.
The California Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Dwayne Usher of Vallejo was behind the wheel of his Honda waiting to turn onto Lakeville Highway when the catering van lost its trailer carrying the pizza oven in Petaluma Friday night.
The oven slammed into Usher's car, killing him at the scene and injuring his four-year-old and eight-year-old sons. They were later released from a local hospital.
The CHP says 34-year-old woman who was in the passenger seat of Usher's car, still remains hospitalized after she suffered injuries in the accident.
Investigators have impounded the portable oven owned by a restaurant in Petaluma to determine if it was being properly towed.
