Missing Venomous Snake At San Francisco Zoo Found In Its Enclosure
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A venomous snake that San Francisco Zoo staff feared had escaped was found inside its enclosure Tuesday.
Zoo officials had been trying to determine if the snake had slithered off, or been eaten by another animal at the zoo before the Baron's Racer (Philodryas baroni) showed up in its enclosure Tuesday, surprising workers.
"We are happy to report the snake is alive and well, and apparently never left its tank," San Francisco Zoo Deputy Director Joe Fitting said, adding that "snakes are amazing creatures and can camouflage themselves when they don't want to be found."
Staff kept hope alive that the snake had never left, and placed large plants inside the tank to coax the snake from its hiding place.
