Grass fire torches abandoned mobile home in Antioch; forward progress stopped

ANTIOCH -- A grass fire in Antioch burned an abandoned mobile home and threatened a business park Wednesday afternoon before firefighters stopped its progress.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) said in a tweet at 2:35 p.m. the multiple-alarm fire was burning in the vicinity of Vineyard Drive and E. 18th Street in the northeast portion of the city. 

The fire torched the former office of a shuttered driving range at 2801 E. 18th St.

Crews were able to protect multiple nearby ambulances at American Medical Response ambulance firm located at the nearby Vineyard Business Park. 

At 3:28 p.m., Con Fire reported that forward progress was stopped and extensive mop-up was underway.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Con Fire said.
