Vacaville Man Arrested After Allegedly Leading Police On High-Speed Chase

VACAVILLE (CBS SF) -- A 28-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly led an officer on a short, high-speed pursuit then fled on foot into a neighborhood in Vacaville on Friday afternoon, police said.

The suspect was identified as Matthew Jimenez of Vacaville, who was arrested on suspicion of felony evasion in a vehicle and violation of probation, according to police.

An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop on a car Jimenez was driving at Camellia Way and Palm Avenue, about two blocks away from Alamo Elementary School, shortly before 1 p.m., police said.

Jimenez allegedly drove past a stop sign and fled at high speeds, according to police.

He then drove about a mile away to the 300 block of Elder Street where he abandoned the car, police said.

Jimenez fled on foot and jumped fences at multiple homes, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and were able to catch Jimenez, police said.

He was previously convicted of felony evasion in a car, according to police.

Residents in the 300 block of Elder Street have been asked to turn in any suspicious items they may have found in their yard to Vacaville police.
