USOC Selects Boston As Proposed Host City For 2024 Olympics
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The United States Olympic Committee has decided to put Boston forward as the American bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.
The USOC made the decision Thursday after reviewing final bids from The Bay Area, Los Angeles, Boston and Washington D.C. Those cities were finalists among 25 invited to bid on the honor.
Thursday afternoon, rumors surfaced that the debate had narrowed to the two California locations.
But that all seemed to change by 3:30 p.m.
On Wednesday it was revealed that a new Oakland stadium to be used by the NFL's Raiders could be a centerpiece of the Bay Area proposal. It was not immediately clear if that helped the Bay Area's case at all.
A KPIX 5/SurveyUSA poll found overwhelming support for a Bay Area Olympic bid. In a survey of 500 adults across the Bay Area, 70 percent said they would like the games to be held here. Seven out of 10 also said hosting the 2024 games would be a huge boost for the local economy. The margin of error on that poll was 4.1 percent.
