USGS: Magnitude 4.1 Napa Earthquake 'Could Be Related' To Last Year's 6.0 Quake

NAPA (CBS SF) – A magnitude 4.1 earthquake that struck in Napa County Thursday night could be linked to last year's quake that caused significant damage in the Wine Country.

"The magnitude 4.1 earthquake this evening could be related to the magnitude 6 earthquake we had in August," USGS geophysicist Brad Aagaard told KPIX 5.

Aagaard said Thursday's quake is near a region that may have had a stress increase or decrease from last year's quake, but said more information is needed.

The scientist said Thursday night's quake was larger than any of the aftershocks that shook the area last summer.

Aagaard said the USGS heard from 2,000 people from across the Bay Area who felt the quake, which struck around 7:53 p.m., about 9 miles north of Napa.
