Update: San Francisco coroner identifies man fatally struck by Muni bus on Van Ness

SAN FRANCISCO -- A man struck and killed by a Muni bus in San Francisco last week has been identified by the city's Medical Examiner's Office.

The victim who died in the collision was identified as 61-year-old San Francisco resident Thomas Duba.

Duba was struck by the bus at 12:51 a.m. Thursday near Van Ness Avenue and O'Farrell Street on Muni's 49-Van Ness/Mission line, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said.

City fire officials said the bus had to be raised up to remove Duba, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both directions of Van Ness were closed for hours during the investigation. The roadway eventually reopened at 5:20 a.m.   

San Francisco police are investigating the collision and have not released any other details about the case. Anyone with information was asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or send a text to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
