Uber, Zipcar, Lyft Offer Free Rides, Discounts On Election Day

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS/CBS SF) -- A lack of wheels is no longer an excuse not to vote. Ride-sharing companies like Uber, Zipcar and Lyft are planning all sorts of promotions for Election Day.

Lyft is recognizing the election of our 45th President with a 45% discount. The discount can be applied between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Zipcar members will find free cars on Tuesday evening according to spokeswoman Kate Binette.

"We have more than 900 cars in the Bay area that will be free for reservations form 6 pm to 10 pm, so that's a huge amount of our cars in the area," says Binette. "We have about 1100 vehicles in the area, so more than 900 of those will be free."

Google has an app to help you find your polling place and has teamed up with Uber to make sure you get there.

All day Tuesday, Uber users will see a pop-up reminding them it is Election Day when they open the app. Users can tap on "Find Your Polling Place" and be directed to a Google's webpage where they can locate it and use the Uber app to get there.

Uber hopes by teaming up with Google, it will be as easy as possible for people to get to the polls.

"Given the important decision people around the country will make on November 8th, we wanted to make getting to and from your polling place easier than ever," said Niki Cristoff, Uber's head of Federal Affairs. "Teaming up with Google, Uber is excited to help make that trip as convenient and stress free as possible."
