U-2 Spy Plane Flights To Resume After Fatal Crash

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Beale Air Force Base plans to resume training flights for the U-2 spy plane this week following a crash that left one pilot dead and another injured in Northern California.

Base officials said Thursday that training missions were put on hold so personnel could respond to Tuesday's crash west of the base. However, Col. Larry Broadwell says in a statement that global U-2 intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions were not interrupted.

Lt. Col. Ira S. Eadie was killed and another pilot was treated for non-life-threatening injuries when they ejected from their stricken U-2 aircraft shortly after taking off from Beale on a training mission.
