Foster City Truck Fire Shuts Down Eastbound Highway 92
FOSTER CITY (CBS SF) -- A truck fire on the Highway 92 approach to the San Mateo Bridge closed all eastbound lanes Friday morning, adding to the major traffic headaches happening across the Bay Area.
A Sig-Alert was issued about the truck fire in Foster City shortly after 10:30 a.m. Chopper 5 video of the scene shows a smoldering flatbed truck at the side of the highway and fire crews working to clean the freeway.
Video shows a massive traffic jam on eastbound Highway 92 and the connector from 101 at a standstill with people getting out of their vehicles. There was no immediate word on the status of the driver.
At about 11 a.m., one lane of eastbound traffic was opened and cars began to trickle through, but the lane was closed again about five minutes later before being reopened again.
As of around 12:45, all eastbound lanes had reopened to traffic.
Earlier Friday morning, a big-rig jackknifed on the lower deck of the Bay Bridge, causing major delays for traffic headed to the East Bay that extended for hours.
