Twin Teen Girls And Mother Die In Suspicious Vallejo House Fire
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Two twin teenage girls and their mother died early Sunday when a suspicious fire roared through a Vallejo home, authorities said.
The Vallejo Police Department said officers patrolling the 2900 block of Georgia Street smelled smoke and went to investigate the source around 2:45 a.m.
They came upon an 11-year-old girl suffering from burns who flagged them down and told them that three other people were trapped inside the burning home.
The officers called the fire department and attempted to enter the home, but were forced back by the intense flames that had engulfed the structure.
It was an emotional scene in front of the house Sunday night. Friends left flowers outside for a sidewalk memorial to the two teenage twin girls who died in a fire.
The two twins, named Tram and Trinh Tran, were on the wrestling team at Jesse Bethel High School. They were only 14 years old. The girls died inside their own house early Sunday morning along with their mother.
Arriving firefighters were able to enter the home and removed three female victims. One of the teens died at the scene. Another died at the hospital, while their mother died at a local burn unit.
The 11-year-old who initially flagged the officer down was expected to make a full recovery from her injuries.
Sarah Dilag is friends with the twins. She said there have been tensions between the girls and their father for several days.
Early Sunday morning at about 2 a.m., Dilag received a text from one of the sisters at 2 a.m., just before the fire was reported. It read, "Sarah, are you awake? I'm really scared."
"It's really sad to hear that that was her last words to me," said Dilag through tears. "That she feels really scared. But I couldn't read it because I was asleep. And I feel really bad because I didn't respond to it."
Vallejo investigators said the fire was "suspicious in nature," but have not identified a suspect or say why they thought the fire was suspicious.
"We don't want to get into that at this point, but it's suspicious," said Vallejo Police Lt. Jason Potts.
