Thieves Steal Lotto Vending Machine From Fremont Grocery Store

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Some brazen thieves thought they could play the numbers and get lucky by stealing an entire Lotto Scratchers vending machine from a Lucky grocery store in Fremont over the weekend, lottery officials said.

The machine was pushed out of the store in the 40000 block of Mission Boulevard around 3 a.m. Saturday. The machine was found a few blocks from the store hours later but the cash had been removed.

Most of the stolen tickets were recovered in the machine, but the California Lottery flagged the numbers of the suspected stolen tickets.

The tickets are traceable and if the thieves attempt to cash in a winning ticket they won't be so lucky, and investigators will be immediately notified of their location, lottery officials said.

Anyone with information about the theft or the suspect has been asked to call (800) LOTTERY and ask to speak with an investigator.
