The Simpsons - 'Homer At The Bat'

THE SIMPSONS CLASSICS MARATHON

Homer signs up for the nuclear power plant's softball team. Despite the team's abysmal record the year before, Homer convinces his co-workers to sign up as well, and says that he has the secret weapon. Playing their first game of the season, Homer's team trails. In the ninth inning, down by three runs, and with bases loaded, Homer steps up to the plate, bringing his home made bat with him for the first time. With one swing of the bat, Homer knocks it out of the park. The team goes on to win every one of their games. They make it all the way to the championship, playing against the Shelbyville Gladiators.

Mr. Burns bets the Gladiator's team owner, Ari Amadopolis, one million dollars his team will win. To hedge his bet, Burns hires Jose Canseco, Don Mattingly, Ken Griffey, Jr., Ozzie Smith, Steve Sax, Darryl Strawberry, Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, and Mike Scioscia to work at the plant and play on his team. Homer's hopes of making the team are crushed. Burns posts the game's starting line-up. Not surprisingly, Homer and is co-workers are not on it. A day before the game, Burns fires Don Mattingly for not shaving his sideburns; Steve Sax is wrongly accused of being a murderer; Scioscia gets radiation poisoning; Ken Griffey Jr. overdoses on nerve tonic; Wade Boggs is punched out by Barney; Ozzie Smith disappears at the Springfield Mystery Spot; Canseco pulls objects from a burning house; Clemens thinks he is a chicken and Ozzie Smith vanishes.

Burns is forced to put his real employees back into the game, but he keeps Homer on the bench. With the scored tied in the ninth inning, Burns decides to play it by the book. He pitch hits for Darryl Strawberry, calling in a right hander to bat against the left hand pitcher. Homer gets the call. The first pitch hits Homer, knocking him unconscious, and forcing in the winning run. Still unconscious, Homer, the hero, is paraded around the field.
