Teamsters Protest Unfair Working Conditions For Tech Shuttle Bus Drivers
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Teamsters rallied in San Francisco to protest unfair working conditions for tech shuttle bus drivers.
Members of Teamsters Local 665 gathered at Van Ness and Sacramento. The intersection is one of many where shuttle buses line up to pick up Silicon Valley tech workers.
The Teamsters said they want to give drivers the option to unionize. The said the drivers are forced to work long hours because of the huge gaps in their shifts due to the morning and evening commutes.
The union wants to give drivers the option to unionize.
"These drivers should have an adequate living, adequate pay, and adequate benefits in order to survive here in a very expensive part of the country," said spokesperson Mark Gleason.
The union reps boarded the buses, talked to the drivers and gave them union cards. They issued an apology to public transit riders for any inconvenience caused by the rally.
"We had no other choice," said Gleason.
