Target: Employees Not To Blame For X-Rated Audio At San Jose Store
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – One month after stunned customers at a San Jose Target store heard an X-rated recording through the store's public address system, the company reportedly said no employees were involved.
According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the company said they believe the source of the recording was from outside the store.
Target spokesperson Molly Snyder told the newspaper that "there is absolutely no indication that any team members were involved."
The incident happened on the morning of October 14th at the Westgate Mall location. Shoppers said the audio consisted of sexually explicit material, along with profanities.
Chris Minor, who was shopping at the Target, recorded video of the incident and the reactions of fellow customers. "I thought it may have been Halloween related, maybe an employee playing games, but this was rated-X material, which made me feel very uncomfortable. I was taken aback, very frustrated, and appalled, and angered by what I heard," Minor told KPIX 5 after the incident.
Snyder said the investigation is continuing and that the retailer has "taken steps to prevent it from happening again."
A similar incident involving X-rated audio reportedly took place at a Target store in San Luis Obispo in July.
