Car Burglary Suspects Ram Park Ranger Car, Crash On Golden Gate Bridge
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The Golden Gate Bridge was reopened Monday night after a high-speed police chase during which the suspects rammed into two cars and a citizen at a toll booth.
It all started with two men breaking into cars in the Marin Headlands, according to Alexandra Picavet, spokesperson for the National Park Service.
Police tried to stop the men, but they jumped into a Mercedes, backed into a National Park Ranger's police car, lurched forward and hit another Park Ranger's car, then sped off southbound onto the Golden Gate Bridge, headed toward San Francisco.
When they arrived at the toll plaza, they rear-ended a car, then immediately bailed out, heading east from the toll plaza toward the tourist overlook.
Police were searching for the suspects along several footpaths in all directions leading from the bridge late Monday evening.
