Suspect Who Threatened Cop With Gun Arrested In Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- Police in Santa Rosa Saturday morning arrested a man in connection with several crimes including assault of a peace officer with a firearm.

Angel Santiago-Hernandez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of assault on a peace officer with a firearm, resisting arrest with violence, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a loaded firearm to commit a felony, concealing evidence and violation of pre-trial supervision.

Officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department responded at 2:07 a.m. to the 2000 block of Sebastopol Road on a report of a fight.

As the officers were responding, they received information a subject was running from the fight with a gun in his waistband.

Officers located the man, later identified as Santiago-Hernandez, and he took off running while reaching for his waistband, police said.

Police said Santiago-Hernandez pulled a gun and started to raise it up in the air toward the direction of an officer.

The officer took cover behind a vehicle, and the suspect then threw the gun into a nearby shrub and continued running, police said.

Additional officers were able to catch up with Santiago-Hernandez and take him into custody, police said.

Officers retrieved a loaded .357 caliber revolver that had been thrown by the suspect, police said.

Police said Santiago-Hernandez is a known gang participant.

The other participants involved in the fight were not located.
