Surveillance Video Captures Fatal Hit-And-Run In Pittsburg, Pickup Sought

PITTSBURG (KPIX 5) -- Authorities are hoping newly-released surveillance video will lead to the driver of a pickup truck that fatally struck a woman in Pittsburg on Sunday night.

The video from Pittsburg police shows a silver-colored 2001 or 2002 Chevy Silverado pickup cruising past a gas station on Willow Pass Road.

Moments later, the truck veers dangerously and hurtles into a woman pushing a shopping cart on a sidewalk. After the woman was struck, a light pole snapped and crashed onto the street.

After the impact, the pickup keeps driving, leaving 50-year-old Michelle Braz to die.

Friends of Braz gathered at the spot where she died Tuesday to light candles and ask for justice.

"Doesn't he have a conscience?" friend Rhonda Strock asked. "He killed an innocent woman."

Strock said, "He's going to get caught. I feel that. I know that."

Authorities said the pickup may have front end damage. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Pittsburg Police.
