A beach hazard statement is in effect for Thursday through Friday evening. A potent storm to the North of the San Francisco Bay Area has generated a long period swell train moving into the Bay Area waters Thursday. What does this mean for you? With near or record warm temperatures forecast for the Bay Area Thursday and Friday, many people will be flocking to the local beaches. Be mindful of:
-Fast moving forerunner waves arriving this afternoon.
-Large waves overnight tonight through Friday. (4 to 7 ft. swells today, 10-15 ft. Friday, 6-10 ft. Saturday).
-Increased likelihood of people pulled out into the ocean by rip currents or washed into the ocean by sneaker waves.
The Beach Hazard Statement includes the Pacific coastline from Sonoma County to Monterey County.
