Panthers Player May Wear 3-D Printed Brace For Super Bowl 50
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – A linebacker for the Carolina Panthers could be the first NFL player to use a 3-D printed brace if he plays in Super Bowl 50 this Sunday at Levi's Stadium.
CNET reported the brace was created for Thomas Davis, who suffered a broken right forearm during the Panthers NFC Championship win against the Arizona Cardinals.
Whiteclouds, a 3-D printing company, teamed up with 3D Elite, which manufactures braces and casts for athletes. Using a 3-D scan of the Davis' arm, the brace was designed, engineered and printed in a span of less than 48 hours. Davis was spotted wearing the brace and has been practicing with the team this week at San Jose State University.
Davis already underwent surgery to have metal plate and a dozen screws placed in his arm.
According to the NFL Network, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera announced Friday that Davis would start.
