Super Bowl 50 Media Day Goes Primetime, Will Take Place At San Jose's SAP Center

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- The National Football League announced that Media Day for Super Bowl 50 will take place at the SAP Center in San Jose on the Monday night before the big game. Members of the public will also be able to buy tickets and attend the primetime event.

The NFL hasn't set a price for tickets yet, but it is expected to cost less than $30. The league sees this as another way to provide a unique experience for the fans.

There are also plans for some musical performances.

With most of the big events going on in San Francisco, and the game being held at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Mayor Sam Liccardo is more than happy to see San Jose getting a slice of the Super Bowl action.

"It's gonna be a lot of fun to have media day here in the South Bay," Liccardo said. "This is a great opportunity for us to showcase downtown San Jose, bringing tens of thousands of people in. It's usually the event that sometime gets bigger than the Super Bowl itself."

Another big change is the NFL has ditched the name "Media Day" and is calling the event "Opening Night."

Every player is required to be at the Media Day, and required to talk. Last season, Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch repeatedly told reporters he was there so he wouldn't get fined by the league.
