Sunnyvale Resident Interrupts Burglary; Suspects Flee
SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Police are seeking information leading to the arrest of two suspects who fled in a red Mercedes-Benz SUV following a burglary interrupted by a resident at a home in Sunnyvale Monday, a police captain said.
Shortly before 12 p.m. Monday, officers with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety responded to a report of an interrupted burglary at a residence in the 900 block of East El Camino Real, Sunnyvale DPS Captain Jeff Hunter said.
Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and seeing two suspects flee the scene in a red, newer-model Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV with white lettering on the rear window, Hunter said.
The victim of the burglary told police he heard someone attempting to enter his residence and confronted the suspect. The suspect then fled from the home, but the victim followed him, according to Hunter.
The suspect and the victim got into a physical fight and the suspect brandished a handgun, Hunter said.
A struggle between the victim and the suspect ensued and the firearm discharged one round into a metal railing, the police captain said.
No injuries were reported.
A witness observed the suspect and another person getting into the suspect vehicle and drive east on El Camino Real.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s with a light mustache, standing 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and wearing dark jeans, Hunter said.
The second suspect was described as a black man in his 20s, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing a black hat, a black shirt with a white shirt underneath and dark jeans.
Detectives are continuing the investigation and searching for information regarding the suspects' identities and whereabouts.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Sunnyvale DPS at (408) 730-7180.
