Strong 6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Panama Early Monday, No Tsunami Threat
(CBS SF) -- A strong earthquake measuring a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 struck just offshore of Punta De Burica, Panama early Monday morning.
Strong shaking was felt across a 50-mile wide region of coastline, but the impact on large populated cities is initial expected to be relatively minor based on computer modeling.
No tsunami warnings or alerts were issued, despite the location of the quake.
