Stowaway Teen's Father Counts Blessings After Son's Dangerous Ordeal
SANTA CLARA (KCBS) - The father of the Bay Area teen who survived a dangerous flight from San Jose to Hawaii as a stowaway in the wheel well of a jetliner went through a range of emotions as Hawaii police explained his son's ordeal.
Abdilahi Yusuf Abdi is counting his blessings that his 15-year-old son survived lives 5½ hours of extreme temperatures with little oxygen, the man said in an interview with Voice of America's.
"He thanked God that his son survived from this dangerous trip to Hawaii," said interviewer Mohamed Olad Hassan, who spoke to the Somali man in his his native language.
Abdi said his son often talked about leaving Santa Clara and returning to Africa. The boy told local police and FBI he had run away from home.
The boy has since cleared several medical checkups, and Abdi is anxious to be reunited with him soon.
"He didn't mention any particular day when the boy will return home," Hassan said.
