Stolen City Truck Used In Smash & Grab Robberies At Oakland Golf Pro Shop
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A stolen city maintenance truck was used by burglars to smash their way into a pro shop at an Oakland golf course twice in the same day.
Burglars broke into the pro shop at the Montclair Golf Course by backing a stolen Parks and Recreation maintenance pickup truck through the front doors and stole dozens of golf clubs, according to the shop's owner.
The initial break in happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday night, but the shop's owner says his Bay Alarm system failed to go off, so the burglars came back for a second haul less than two hours later.
"They assumed the alarm wasn't going off or there isn't an alarm… we should just go back and get more stuff," the shop's owner, who did not want to be identified said.
The alarm's failure left him upset.
"We would have had a smaller loss had the alarm system worked properly," he said.
The thieves also tried to steal the shop's ATM, but it was bolted down.
Police were given surveillance footage of the robberies, and are looking for suspects.
