Stinson Beach Residents Face Mandatory Water Rationing Restrictions
MARIN COUNTY (KCBS)— Residents of Stinson Beach could soon face hefty mandatory water rationing unless water flows increase at nearby creeks and streams.
Rental property owners would face even tougher water restrictions. Stinson Beach Water District General Manager Ed Schmidt said the town passed a mandatory water rationing plan where if water levels reach a certain level, a cap of 185 gallons a day would go into effect.
Year-round rental properties would only have a 125 gallon allotment. Dozens of rental property owners would only be able to use the 125 gallons a day in part to provide more water for year rounders.
"We're all set to go, and the ordinance is passed, we're just going to see how the clouds open up," Schmidt said.
Many of the home owners don't like it, but property manager with Highway One Properties, Jeanne Sherfey, has taken steps to less to have her clients use less.
"I've added an addendum to my vacation rental contracts limiting them to their water use and taking away the clothes washing machine, reminding them to not leave the water running when they're washing their hands and face," she said.
