Star Trek's Shatner Proposes $30 Billion Kickstarter Campaign To Save California From Drought
(CBS SF) - William Shatner has an idea for solving our drought that's almost as far fetched as just beaming up a new batch of water. The 84-year-old Star Trek star say he thinks we need a water pipeline, and we need to pay for it with a crowd-funding campaign.
Shatner sat down with Yahoo Tech last week and said it's time for a $30 billion grassroots movement to backstop the state's water reserves in case our 4-year drought drags on.
"I want…to build a pipeline like the Alaska pipeline. Say, from Seattle, a place where there's a lot of water. There's too much water. How bad would it be to get a large, 4-foot pipeline, keep it above ground," Shatner told Yahoo's David Pogue.

Shatner indicated that if he's not able to raise the money he'll give it to a politician who says he or she can get it built.
"Why can't they do it along Highway 5?" asked Shatner. "This whole area's about to go under!"
As of Monday morning, CBS San Francisco couldn't find any such campaign on Kickstarter.
Earlier this year a NASA scientist wrote an op-ed suggesting that the state has only about one year of water left in its reservoirs. Governor Jerry Brown has since called for the first mandatory cutbacks in state history.
