Stanford, UC Berkeley Top List For Campus Crime In California
Crunching numbers from the U.S. Department of Education, a southern California law firm found that among large, four-year colleges in the state, Stanford topped the list for the most on-campus crime allegations per capita, followed by UC Berkeley.
Students at the UC Berkeley campus told KCBS they don't necessarily see their campus as a dangerous place.
"I don't feel unsafe on campus. But, I also don't go there at night," one student said.
Overall, the most common crime on California campuses is burglary, which accounted for more than half of the reports. Eighteen percent of the crimes are sex-related, closely followed by stolen cars.
Campus police were not immediately available to respond to KCBS for comment on the report.
