Stanford Fraternity Housing Suspended For 2 Years Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

STANFORD (KCBS) — Stanford University suspended the on-campus housing privileges of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity for the next two academic years after an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, according to a University statement on Monday.

The Stanford Daily reported on Monday that sorority members were allegedly subjected to highly offensive material, including graphic sexual content, and comments that seemed to support the domestic abuse of women, at an SAE house last spring.

An investigation was launched and findings indicated that the spring event had created a hostile environment for female students. Furthermore, the fraternity had not provided a sufficient response to concerns about the event, violating the University's sexual harassment policy.

SAE will continue to be a recognized fraternity at Stanford, but the fraternity will no longer have the privilege and responsibility of having a dedicated on-campus house.

Efforts to reach SAE for a response have been unsuccessful.
