Southbound I-680 North Of Pleasanton Reopens After Tanker Truck Cleared
ALAMEDA COUNTY (CBS SF) -- A planned shut down of southbound I-680 Wednesday afternoon so crews could remove a tanker truck that went through a guardrail and off road after an early morning collision has been completed, according to authorities.
The collision happened early Wednesday morning in an unincorporated area of Alameda County near the Koopman Road exit, about a half mile from the west Highway 84 junction to the Dumbarton Bridge.
The collision only caused minor injuries. The right lane of southbound I-680 near the incident is currently closed. The full closure of southbound I-680 at Koopman Road at 12 p.m. allowed CHP and road crews to remove the tanker truck.
At approximately 12:00pm today, Southbound I-680 at Koopman Road will be closed for approximately 1 hour to assist in the recovery of this early morning collision. Luckily, only minor injuries. Alternate route will be exiting at Castlewood Road to Foothill Rd. or Pls/Sunol Rd. https://t.co/o6l1NFDBSo pic.twitter.com/5j2ryl9XpZ

At one point traffic web service 511.org reported that there was an additional collision that had closed southbound lanes of the freeway not far from the area, but that report was inaccurate.
The closure apparently began later than originally planned. Alameda County Fire posted on its Twitter account that fire crews and a hazmat team were at the scene and assisting with the transfer of 2,000 to 2,500 gallons of ethanol at around 2:15 p.m.
Update: Transfer has started. Appears to be more like 2000-2500 gallons of ethanol. pic.twitter.com/aol9i6KGC0

One southbound lane appeared to be opened to traffic during the operation.
CHP later confirmed that all lanes had reopened once the tanker truck was cleared from the scene by shortly before 3 p.m. There were still some emergency personnel in the area, so CHP said that drivers could expect some additional delays.
