South Bay Traffic Alert: Overturned Big Rig Removed From Southbound Lanes Of Highway 101

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- An overturned big rig was removed from U.S. Highway 101 near the connector ramp to Interstate Highway 880 in San Jose Friday morning, more than two hours after the accident forced the California Highway Patrol to close all the southbound lanes.

The crash closed all the southbound 101 lanes for 2 hours 37 minutes. There were no injuries reported.

The CHP said officers responded to a 911 call reporting the crash at about 7:45 a.m. and by 8 a.m. a Sig-alert had been issued.

While the lanes were blocked all southbound traffic on Highway 101 was diverted to I-880 southbound. Still, there was a morning commute bottleneck that stretched for miles.

Heavy equipment was called to the scene to lift the truck back onto its wheels.

"The plan will be to drag the big rig toward the right shoulder, allowing the far left #1 and #2 lanes to be opened to southbound US-101 traffic. From there, the work of righting the truck and trailer will take a projected several hours," the CHP tweeted.
