SoCal Group Sues City Of Los Angeles For Demolishing Marilyn Monroe's Home

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) -- Los Angeles is facing a lawsuit after a home where Marilyn Monroe once lived was demolished to make way for a condominium complex.

A group of Los Angeles County residents who filed the lawsuit say the city trampled state and local laws when it endorsed development on the site.

The lawsuit filed last week seeks to roll back approval for the five-unit project in the San Fernando Valley.

The house where the actress lived for one year was torn down days before a hearing on whether to consider making it a historic monument.

City staffers didn't recommend considering the house as a monument, since Monroe didn't break into the film industry until years later.

The city is reviewing the complaint.

Monroe and husband Joe DiMaggio lived for a time in San Francisco's Marina District. The house at 2150 Beach Street still stands.
