SoCal Cold Case Murder May Have Been Work Of Manson Family, Police Say
It was one of the thousands of cold-case files: "Jane Doe 59" At the time, Cliff Shepard was the detective assigned to the LAPD cold-case unit.
"I opened this file up, and discovered an article of clothing that had dried blood on it," Shepard said.
The now retired detective said he posted information about the case on the internet several times.
"We had no clue who she was, where she came from," Shepard said.
The woman's body was found in 1969 in dense brush off Mulholland Drive, not far from where the Manson Family murders took place.
"It's still a possibility. I can't rule anything out," Shepard said.
Shepard said that Manson was interviewed while in prison, but didn't recognize the victim from a photograph. Shepard believes the killer could have been a spurned love interest.
