Sleep May Be Secret Ingredient In Giants' Winning Recipe
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Sleep may be the secret to the San Francisco Giants' winning recipe lately.
After Sunday night's World Series Game 5 win over the Kansas City Royals, Giants players again went home to sleep in their own beds while the Royals hopped a late-night plane to Kansas City.
Following the Royals' Game 2 victory in Kansas City, the team also headed to San Francisco before the Giants did. The Giants elected to sleep overnight in their Kansas City hotel while the Royals immediately took a late night flight to SFO after the game.
Staying behind for a normal night's sleep instead of taking late-night flights right after games has been standard operating procedure for the Giants. The team began baseball tradition just a few years ago after consulting with a sleep specialist, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
"Is it helping us win any games or not? I don't know," Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner told the newspaper. "It's hard to quantify."
The Giants hold a 3-2 lead the World Series with Game 6 scheduled for Tuesday at 5:07 p.m. Pacific Time.
