Suspect, Victims In Two Skyline Boulevard Stabbings Identified
SAN MATEO COUNTY (CBS SF) – The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday afternoon identified the suspect and two victims in a pair of stabbings found near Skyline Boulevard this week.
The suspect was taken into custody early Wednesday after crashing his car into a ditch while attempting to flee officers investigating a second body discovered on a remote stretch of Skyline Boulevard in San Mateo County.
Late Tuesday night, detectives directed patrol deputies to respond back to the scene of a Monday homicide to search for additional evidence.
At approximately 11:55 p.m., patrol deputies conducting that search heard a person calling for help about 50 yards from their location. Deputies found a man, suffering from stab wounds, lying on the ground in a turnout off Skyline Blvd.
Authorities said the victim -- 31-year-old John Sione Pekipaki -- ultimately died of his injuries on scene.
Simultaneously, deputies saw a man fleeing the area, who they believed to be the suspect. A deputy fired at the oncoming vehicle which was driving towards the victim and both deputies.
Investigators said the suspect -- identified as 26-year-old Malik Dosouqi -- was not hit by gunfire, but the vehicle went off the roadway, crashing into a ditch. The suspect was taken into custody and received medical care for a laceration to his arm.
Both homicides happened within close proximity of each other, and both victims died from multiple stab wounds. Investigators said they were actively looking into a connection between the two homicides.
The roadway, also known as state Highway 35, was closed between Reids Roost and Swett Roads for much of the day, as sheriff's officials investigated the homicide, Lt. Stephanie Josephson said.
Josephson advised that any residents in the area of the closure who witnessed any suspicious activity either late last night or early Wednesday to report it to sheriff's officials. In addition, residents are asked to call 911 if a stranger or someone who isn't law enforcement knocks on their door.
"Well, I feel terrible, because it's such a beautiful area. I love living here, a really tight-knit, close community," one nearby resident who did not want to go on camera told KPIX 5. "And so to hear things like this going on, it's really disturbing and sad."
Late Monday night, a San Mateo County sheriff's deputy found a dead man lying on the shoulder of Skyline Boulevard near the El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve, near the scene of Pekipaki's homicide.
The deputy was on an unrelated call when the body was discovered at 11:09 p.m. Monday just north of Reids Roost. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, with stab wounds.
The victim has since been identified by the county coroner's office as 32-year-old Pacifica resident Abdulmalek Nasher.
By Wednesday, word had spread about Nasher's death, and friends and family had begun arriving from all over the country, to gather at the victim's home in Daly City. Loved ones crammed into the small townhome, with each visiting family making a dish to share.
"He was a good citizen, was a hard working guy, no trouble, goes everyday to work and comes home. Now he leaves a child and a widow behind," said Nassr Algheghy, a cousin.
Nasher was a cab driver, and had received a call around 10pm that night to transport a customer. About an hour later, a deputy found his remains along Highway 35.
"I consider him like my son," said Mansoor Ismael, the Yemeni Consul General based in San Francisco, who had mentored Nasher the past 12 years.
Ismael said as Nasher was leaving Monday night, his four-year-old daughter asked to come along. Nasher refused, but promised to bring back some ice cream, to comfort his child.
"When I told her yesterday your father will not come back, she said 'No, he's coming back with the ice cream.' Sometimes she cries, sometimes she says 'No, no, my father will come back,'" said Ismael.
"I want justice. I want to see the death penalty for (the killer). Not just jail. I want to see the death penalty for him," said Ismael.
Anyone with information about suspicious activity in the area is asked to call the sheriff's office at (650) 363-4051.
