Sheriff's Helicopter Crew Rescues Injured Woman From Santa Rosa Park

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A Sonoma County Sheriff's Office's helicopter crew rescued a 56-year-old woman with an ankle injury at Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa on Sunday afternoon.

The Henry-1 helicopter crew was informed around 2:55 p.m. about a woman with an ankle injury in the area of the North Burma Trail in the east Santa Rosa park, said sheriff's Deputy Chris Mahoney, who was on board the helicopter.

Mahoney and pilot Paul Bradley spotted a group of people on the trail waiving at the helicopter and Bradley landed the helicopter in a field.

Mahoney treated the injured hiker and put her leg in a splint with help from California State Park rangers and firefighters from Bennett Valley and Santa Rosa.

The woman was placed in a stretcher used to remove injured people from remote areas, Mahoney said.

Because of the dense and tall tree canopy in the area, the helicopter crew used a 200-foot long line to take the woman away from the trail, Mahoney said.

Mahoney said he and a Santa Rosa Fire Department medic were flown on the long line to a waiting ambulance that took the woman to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa.
