SFO Flights Cancelled, Delayed Due To East Coast Storm

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The East Coast winter storm has caused flight cancellations Thursday on the West Coast. Delays and cancellations at San Francisco International Airport could continue into Friday.

There were at least 17 east-bound departures cancelled on American Airlines, Jet Blue and United Airlines with flights to Boston, JFK and Newark being the most affected, SFO Duty Manager Dan Dinnocenti said.

"Obviously those flights going are not coming back so that's where we start getting the large of arrivals and departures that are cancelled because there are actually two," he said.

Many of the cancellations, Dinnocenti said, were made preemptively in anticipation of the continuing storm. Flights were cancelled six to seven hours before departure.

"It hit Chicago yesterday and it's heading east. We haven't seen the worst of the storm, as I understand from the Weather Channel, yet," he said.

Oakland International Airport, which doesn't have many direct flights to the East Coast, is not experiencing delays or cancellations.

At Mineta San Jose International Airport there was one Jet Blue red-eye flight to Boston that was cancelled and some a few other delays.
