SF Presidio Trust Rejects All 3 Final Proposals For Cultural Center Near Crissy Field
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— The Presidio Trust board has rejected all three final proposals for a cultural arts center across from Crissy Field in San Francisco.
Nancy Bechtel, the chair of Trust's Board of Directors, made the announcement at a news conference Monday afternoon that it was a carefully deliberated and unanimous decision.
However, she added that there's still hope for filmmaker George Lucas who had wanted to build the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum.
"We are extending an invitation to George Lucas to work with us to identify an alternative location for his proposed museum within the Presidio," Bechtel said.
The Star Wars creator has said he's exploring his alternatives.
The lengthy process had initially whittled down 16 proposals to a final three to build on the Mid-Crissy site currently occupied by Sports Basement, a sporting goods store.
Other rejected proposals included the Presidio Exchange and a Bridge/ Sustainability Institute.
The former military base on the northern tip is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area was transferred to the National Park Service in 1994.
