SF Police Close Pacific Heights Intersection Because Of Gas Leak

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - San Francisco police closed a busy intersection in Lower Pacific Heights and evacuated some of the surrounding buildings for about an hour Thursday because of a gas leak at a construction site.

An excavator struck a one-inch natural gas line at the site, near the corner of Pine and Divisadero streets, shortly after 10 a.m., fire officials said.

San Francisco police shut down Divisadero Street for two blocks, evacuating every building between California and Bush streets while Pacific Gas and Electric crews worked to cap the leak.

Crews were able to pinch the line around 10:45 a.m., and the street was reopened to pedestrian traffic.

That stretch of Divisadero Street remained closed to vehicle traffic, however, because of the repair work needed to cap the gas line.

No one was hurt.
