Seattle, Bay Area Bridges Launch Twitter Battle Over 49ers V. Seahawks Super Bowl Bid
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The imminent battle on the field has become a battle of the bridges, as a San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Twitter account and the Twitter handle for the 520 Bridge in Washington State are engaged in a trash-talking duel worthy of the most ardent of NFL football fans.
The fact that their namesakes are made of steel and asphalt hasn't kept the tweets from detouring from the usual witty traffic snark these accounts normally carry.
Neither is an official account run by Caltrans or the Washington State Department of Transportation, which gives their anonymous writers' the ability to make bridge-sized boasts.
@SFBayBridge tweets, "What do the Seahawks & my east span bolts have in common? They both spent too much time in the rain and get way too much hype!"
@520_Bridge counters, "What does the Niners defense & my pontoons have in common? Both cost millions but had cracks once they got to Seattle.@SFBayBridge#GoHawks."
It has continued for several tweets, beginning in San Francisco with:
"Heyyyyy @520_bridge, are you ready for some football? >:)"
The Washington retweet and response, "I'm ready to toll to toll with you! #GoHawks!"
But then, it gets tougher:
520_Bridge: "@SFBayBridge What'd the #Niners fan do after his team won the #Superbowl? A: Woke up. (Bonus punchline!) A: turned off his #Xbox."
And from the Bay Area bridge: "I'M glad that the #Seahawks will be surrounded by friends to console them when they lose to the @49ers at home. @520_bridge"
