Search Underway For Hayward Teen Missing Since Saturday

HAYWARD (CBS SF) – An extensive search has been launched for a Hayward teen that has not been seen after he walked away from his home last weekend.

UPDATE: Hayward Teen Missing Since Saturday Found Safe In San Francisco

Minh Ly, a 16-year-old student at Moreau Catholic High School, walked into a wooded area near his home following an ongoing dispute with his father about playing the online game "League of Legends."

Sanh Ly, Minh's father, said the teen was so upset when he turned off the Internet connection to the home Friday night that he slept in the family car outside their home. The father said the argument spilled into the afternoon.

"I said 'If you don't want to go in the house, you either stay or you leave,'" Sanh Ly said Tuesday night.

Minh's sister Kim thought he left to cool off. "I thought he was just going to go for a run and come back because he goes running in the woods all the time," Kim Ly told KPIX 5.

The 16-year-old had no phone or wallet with him at the time of his disappearance. Authorities said there has been some activity on his Facebook account, which has led to Alameda County detectives to search for the teen in San Francisco, where the account last set off an electronic marker.

Alameda County sheriff's deputies have set up a command post in the hills nearby.

Police said they are particularly concerned because Minh is described as a good student who has never run away before and that this is out of character for him.

"Sixteen year old kid missing Saturday night after an argument with his parents is not all that unusual. It did become unusual when it's now four days later and we haven't heard from him," said Sergeant J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

Minh stands 5 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. A photo released from authorities shows Minh has black hair, brown eyes and braces.
