Search For Vallejo Mom After Kidnappers Demand Ransom From Son, Kill Her Dog
VALLEJO (KPIX 5) -- Police in Vallejo have four people under arrest in a kidnapping-for-ransom scheme.
The ransom text sent on July 1 to John Babb of San Francisco said if he didn't pay up, his mother would be dead.
His mother is 57-year-old Elvira Babb who was last seen at the Seafood City Market in Vallejo not far from her house.
When her son got to her home after the text, she was gone and her dog was dead. Since that moment, the FBI, U.S. Marshalls Service and Fairfield police have been on the case to find the suspects and find Babbs.
The suspects were taken into custody late Friday night and early Saturday morning but Babbs has not been found.
"The victim's been gone for over a week, so it causes it some deep concern, obviously," said Lt. Jeff Bassett of the Vallejo Police Department. "We're hopeful that we'll be able to locate her alive."
The chief suspects are Emmanuel Espinosa of Stockton, Jalon Brown and Larry Young of Sacramento and Lovely Rauzol of Vallejo.
Vallejo Police Department said Babbs was acquainted with Espinosa, but wouldn't divulge anything further.
The suspects are all in the Solano County Jail facing charges of kidnapping for ransom charges. They've been interviewed, but aren't cooperating, and detectives still haven't found Babbs.
While authorities aren't revealing the exact amount of the ransom demanded, KPIX 5 has learned it was less than $100,000.
