Missing Marin County Hiker Found Dead; Search Crews Seek 2nd Missing Man
SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- A missing hiker in Marin County was found dead Tuesday, one of two men being sought by search and rescue crews in the county.
The National Park Service said 56-year-old Scott Klingenmaier was found deceased on NPS property. A Marin County Sheriff search team had been looking for Klingenmaier after he was last seen Thursday morning near Tennessee Valley Rd. and the Oakwood Valley Trailhead west of Marin City in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
The sheriff's office said Klingenmaier, who was described as being at risk, was staying with friend near Mill Valley and set off for a hike on Thursday but did not return. Authorities found his car Monday on Tennessee Valley Rd.
The park service said out of respect for the individual's family, it would not be fielding inquiries about the matter.
Marin County Search and Rescue was also looking for 73-year-old John Hollabaugh, last seen on Alta Ave. in the town in Lagunitas, just east of Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Hollabaugh, also described by the sheriff's office as at risk, is 6'0" and 180 lbs, white male, gray hair, blue eyes.
He walked away from an address on Alta Ave on Saturday and has been missing since, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators believe Hollabaugh left the Lagunitas area on public transit over the weekend.
Anyone with any information was urged to call the Marin County Sheriff's Office at (415) 479-2311.
