School's Out For San Jose Medical School After Being Served Eviction Notice
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— There were no classes Tuesday at a Bryman College in San Jose after the medical school was served with an eviction notice. Students who paid hefty tuition appear to have been left in the lurch by the sudden development.
The college's front doors at S. Winchester Boulevard were closed tight, with eviction notices plastered on all of the entrances. Other tenants in the three-story office building were shocked.
"It's pretty insane that a business is getting evicted, like you said and not only a business, but a college," said Jeff Chung, one of the tenants in the office building.
Chung said his heart goes out to students who paid about $16,000 for a year's tuition to be trained as medical or dental assistants.
"It is kind of unfortunate I guess for the students. They just had nowhere to go I guess, or whatever tuition they put down or the work they put in on classes; they all go to waste," he said.
Bryman is owned by Bio Health College in San Jose, which did not respond to KCBS' phone calls.
Santa Clara County Sheriff's Spokesperson Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup could only confirm the eviction was part of a civil court order.
"Once that eviction is served and that notice is put up, then that's pretty much the end of our job and we move on to the next one," Stenderup said.
Bryman also has schools in San Francisco, Hayward and Los Angeles, but those campuses appear to be unaffected by the San Jose eviction.
